Toddler Sleep

Most recommend that as your child enters toddlerhood, he should be getting between 10-12 hours of sleep a night. At this point, one 1-2 hour nap may still be routine and should continue assuming he sleeps throughout the night.

Bedtime rituals should become your best friend when it comes to putting your toddler down at night.
  • Whatever the routine, reading a favorite story or sharing warm chocolate milk, the bedtime customs you create will help ease your toddler into bed.
  • A bubble bath can start active enough with cups and toys to splash about and allow him to exert the last dose of energy for the day. 5 minutes before taking him out, turn down the lights, maybe light a scented candle, and sing rhythmic songs that he can sing along with. Concluding the bath with this down time will help make the transition to bed much smoother.
  • Giving her a massage before bed can be relaxing for both of you. Use lotion to stroke down her back or down her leg from her hip to foot. Strokes that pull away from the heart are more relaxing, whereas strokes that push toward the heart are more stimulating.
A consistent bedtime is also helpful and will help your tot set her internal clock. Be firm. As the time approaches, remind your tot that they have 30 minutes till bedtime. Ask how they would like to spend it by letting him choose between 2 activities.

Give him love and cuddles to last the whole night through. Empathize with his desire to want to stay close to you and remind him that the morning will bring new fun.

Reward her with a breakfast treat or as you tuck her in, ask her if she would prefer waffles or pancakes in the morning. She’ll soon recognize that sleeping through the night will make the morning come faster.
