Managing your schedule

As a busy mom, you don’t need to be reminded of the importance in managing your time. However, as a committed mom, you likely find your self being pulled in differing directions to meet the needs of your family. It is easy to take on more than you can handle and offer transport for another child to the baseball game or pick up the costumes needed for the school play. While providing this support is wonderful every now and then, running from here to there and back again is the surest way to run yourself ragged.

  • Set up a daily and weekly schedule that you are able to roughly abide by. Sure, your child will likely call the next day needing a ride that wasn’t planned, however, knowing ahead the time you have to complete your day will help prevent you from taking on more than you can handle.
  • Try to do as much one-stop shopping as possible and find a shopping complex in your area that offers a variety of stores all within a relative short distance.
  • Remember, bouncing from one store to the next to save money isn’t always saved when gas, time and energy is spent is its place.
  • Creating a carpool in your neighborhood disperses the burden, but make sure you involve safe drivers that have safe vehicles.
  • Share the load with your partner as well and offer to pick up dinner as he picks up the dry cleaning.
  • Keep kids entertained in the car with music or a DVD as you make a necessary stop at the post office.
Above all, don’t forget to create some time for you each and every day. Sure 5 minutes may be the best you get on some days, but setting aside even those few precious minutes will help you better take care of yourself and your family.
