Parenting with confidence
Ever feel like you can’t do anything right? That you’re failing your kids and not doing a great parenting job? You are certainly not alone.
In our society differing opinions, advice, and tips flood our systems and can often leave us feeling less than confident and more uncertain about our parenting abilities.
Rather than deplete your system, take a moment every day to recall a great parenting moment.
- It can be cutting those crusts of your daughter’s PB&J sandwich the way she likes, or providing just the right amount of support for your autonomous seeking toddler.
Remember, kids don’t often freely provide love and gratitude. Take pleasure from the small indications that you are a great parent.
- The sly smile he sends your way, the “thank you” said under her irritated breath or the quick hug before she run off with her friends.
Start the compliment train and provide plenty of supportive comments to your partner. Usually this will encourage the same in return.
With all the hype and experts around every block, it’s easy to get off track and feel as though you are losing the contest for parent of the year.
Truth is you win it everyday when staying connected with your child, supporting him endlessly and loving him unconditionally. Knowing your child is safe, cared for, and nurtured is your reward.
Although, I suppose an actual medal wouldn’t hurt.
