Meditating Mommy and Daddy
It’s likely that the last thing you feel able to do in your busy day is set aside time to meditate. While the benefits of meditation are endless, the positive role this ritual plays within parenthood is equally significant. As a parent, chaos is often the order of the day, every day. Mediation can allow you to create exceptional inner peace and help you take on each day in a calm, energetic manner.
- Wake up slightly early and begin the day experiencing at least a few moments of peace and tranquility rather than immediately rushing off for morning chores or work.
- Or, establish the habit of nurturing your spirit before bed after the kids have already been put down for sleep.
- Set aside even five minutes of complete silence during the day. Turn off the T.V., dim the lights and sit comfortably on your floor. You can use a pillow to for comfort and allow your spine to extend fully as you sit upright.
- You may prefer to lie flat, with your arms resting to your side. Focus on your breathing and the feeling that is created as you slowly inhale while counting to five. Equally slowly release the air and tension from your body. Feel your chest expand and collapse, feel your shoulders drop and neck muscles loosen.
- Do a mental body scan starting with your pinky toes. Bring your awareness to that part of your body and allow your breath to relax each and every part of you. Very slowly work your way up until you get to the top of your head.
- You may prefer to focus on an image or envision drawing numbers in the sand.
- Try to shake all the thoughts and stressors from the day.
- Take this time to be fully present in the moment rather than fall into the trap of letting your thoughts take over and cause you to worry about what tomorrow may bring.
- Tapes or CDs can also be utilized if you need a voice to guide you into a state of peace.
Open up those pathways of energy that flow from your head to your toes. Find the time. Your mind and body deserve it.
